How to set goals in a post apocalyptic world

The world was predicted to end last night by Harold Camping. As of this post it appears he was wrong. Then again maybe he was right and I was not one of the ones chosen to be saved; I might also add if your reading this you weren’t saved either, were you?

As I started to think about the how The Rapture would drastically alter the course of life as we know it. I started to think about all the things I still want to accomplish in my life. It is the ever growing proverbial to do list. For me all the talk of The Rapture made me think about my life and putting things in perspective. I came to the conclusion that I need to focus more on what is important and less on what is not.

It all starts with having a defined result. It is one thing to have a goal, it is another to define it. I consider it to be more like a benchmark designed to to judge the success or failure of a particular set of actions. Although, I believe that you should write down  your goals, I do not believe that they should be written in stone. You have a better chance of being successful. If you give yourself some flexibility in terms of how you define what success and failure is.

When I started to blog, I didn’t have a plan, a subject, or a voice. I decided to just write on any subject that I found interesting. My blog lacked structure. When I finally started to figure it out I decided to concentrate my blog on helping small business owners maximize their brand identity in person and on the web. This allows me to share my knowledge of sales, running a business, web design, social media, and communication with any one willing to read it. More importantly it allows me to keep the subject matter fresh and interesting.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when trying to set and define a goal.

What is the name of you goal?

What are the results that you would like to accomplish? Be specific

What is your time frame to accomplish this goal?

Do you have the infrastructure in place to support your goal?

How will you benchmark your success and failure rate?

What is the purpose of your goal?

What benefits will you achieve once your goal is achieved?

Is your goal realistic?

What is you expected ROI?

Do you have a back up plan?

Have you thought this goal out?

Is your goal attainable?

What are your goals and how will you define them?

Indeed goals set up to support that which is important are important. My follow up question would be; are the goals you thought important still important if death is impending?
