John Lennon said “life is thing that happens when your busy doing other things!” I just realized that I have not written a new post in over 5 weeks so I guess I could say I have been busy doing other things. Truth be told I was at a loss for words. I didn’t want to blog for the sake of blogging; I want to post remarkable content; In my opinion quality matters! You can read more about creating remarkable content here.
Have you thought about the quality of your blog and the content that you post. What about, what you share within your social network? Do you inspire people to respond to you, or your posts? Do people share your content and links with their extended network? Does your content bring value to peoples lives?
You need to remember that the content you share has to compete with the millions of other people that have content to share ,which means that your content has to be that much more remarkable than everybody else’s content. Seems like a daunting task doesn’t it?
Chances are you are not the only person writing about whatever it is that you write about. Chances are you are one in a million, wanna be subject matter experts. If this is the case how do you not only stand out in a crowd, but get people to read what you post? The answer is simple, think differently and Break the rules! Its o.k to be a renegade. In essence shake it up! If everybody followed the same rules when it came to creating content, the web would be a pretty boring place. Your job is to add something unique and give me a different point of view; who knows it might catch on!
When I first started this blog I would check my analytics every morning, I was obsessed with my web stats and I soon realized that this was an instrumental waste of my time. I soon figured out that at the end of the day it really does not matter how many people visit your site. What matters is how many people engage, share, add, and comment with you on your site. Now don’t get me wrong analytics are important, but in my opinion engaging someone trumps someone just visiting your site.
Did you know that most people that read blogs, do not leave comments. In fact I read a statistic that said only about 20% of all visitors to a blog site will leave a comment on something they read, 20%! It is our job as authors to produce remarkable content that make people want to leave a comment and then share it.
I know that you think your content is remarkable the question is does your audience?
Ben Franklin said “write something worth reading about or do something worth writing about” I am interested to hear your thoughts below.
Hey Marc,
You may have taken a blog vacation, but you made a nice comeback.
I’m relatively new to the blogging world and I began to question whether people were interested in the topics I wrote about because I didn’t get many comments. Of course, I thought they were great posts!
One thing I haven’t done in a while is check the statistics on my blogs. I suppose I should do that because I too would like more comments on my blogs, but it does help to see that people are actually reading my blogs even if they don’t comment.
And when someone actually does comment, I try to comment back so they know I appreciate that they have made an effort to comment-even if it’s a different view than mine.
Renee
Unfortunately it takes time Renee! That said look how far you have come in such a short time. You are beginning to brand yourself as an expert in health and nutrition. Not too mention helping moms make a living while staying home and raising their children! Bravo to you! Thank you for your comment.
I totally agree with you. In fact I do value web statistics and I like to see what people visiting my blog prefer, what drives them to my posts, what I should write about – if possible at all.
What makes me a little bit sad is the lack of comments. I really appreciate when a complete stranger just drops a line, saying “Thanks, your article helped me solving a problem”. I do value those feedback.
I have an article scheduled for the 8th of August which explores the difficulties of blogging. It’s the 5th part of a series.
What I’ve learned, is basically what you say here. Good contents and a simple sitemap submission, is what we, bloggers, really need in the end.
Hello Marco,
I agree with you on “lack of comments” especially when you write a post that you believe to be amazing blog post. I like when those comments turn into conversations. Let me know when your blog series goes live and I will help you promote it. Thanks for your comment Marco
