Twitter Is A Great Tool To Promote Your Business, As Long As You Dont Spam!

So you own a business and you decided to use Twitter, your doing everything right from telling people how to follow you (insert shameless plug here—->@marcreece) to Tweeting about your business, and Tweeting about your business, and Tweeting about your business! Because I mistakenly decided to follow you I know you own a business! It is very clear that you own a business, guess what, we no longer care! You need to rethink how you Tweet. It’s O.K. to promote yourself and your business (Twitter was created to tell people what your doing!) just don’t let that be your sole purpose for using Twitter! It is called social networking for a reason.Think of communicating on Twitter the same way you would communicate with someone in person that you are meeting for the first time. For those of you that don’t know how to be social I have 3 points or ways to be social on Twitter that I would like to share with you.

1) Be social! Do not be afraid to use your social skills and be sociable, (you do have social skills, don’t you?) If you wouldn’t do it during a live conversation with a person or person(s) then don’t do it on Twitter or with any other social media outlet for that matter! Remember it’s not always all about you! Sometimes it is about me.

2) You don’t need to follow everybody, follow people that share your interests! Search for people that share a common interest with you Chances are they will be more receptive to your Tweets and will also engage with you! This includes you customers, they do business with you for a reason. One huge mistake that people make is asking people to follow them on Twitter but not telling them how. Follow me on Twitter @marcreece.

3) Engage the people that follow the people that follow you! Asking people questions is a great way to break the ice with someone and get their input. The sweetest sound a person hears is their name, followed by asking them a question. You can also engage people by commenting on a post you read or better yet even write a blog post about it, it might take awhile but eventually a communication thread will form and you will be interacting with one or multiple people on a particular subject at any given time. This also helps with building your brands awareness and bringing attention to yourself or business.

This is how I started out my day on Twitter! I wished everybody a good morning, Asked the following question, Which is a better Twitter client, Seesmic or Tweetdeck to use with Twitter? And finally I and going to post this blog post! (Like you care. )
